Young Investors Received Prizes

Mrs. Marlene Street Forrest, General Manager of the Jamaica Stock Exchange and Mr. Owen James, CEO of All Media Services Ltd. announced the winners of the Young Investors’ competition.

The Jamaica Stock Exchange in association with All Media Services Ltd. awarded quarterly cash prizes to the Young Investors, at a “Young Investors’ Breakfast” at the Stock Exchange on Monday, July 26, 2010. Mrs. Marlene Street-Forrest, General Manager of the Jamaica Stock Exchange and Mr. Owen James, CEO, All Media Services, awarded quarterly prizes to Mr. Lymono Ledgister, Miss Gizelle-Ann Bishop and Mr. Richard Azan for placing first, second and third respectively in the Young Investor Competition. Mrs. Street Forrest and Mr. James told the media that the incentive system that is in place should motivate the Young Investors to continue in the competition and learn more about risk/reward relationships and more importantly the value that can be derived from investing in equities.

The Young Investors’ programme is aired at 1:00 p.m. on TVJ every Sunday during the programme “On a Personal Note” hosted by Mr. Owen James. This game is where each young person is given $100,000.00 virtual money to trade and compete against each other.

Mrs. Street-Forrest was very upbeat about the programme as she told the media that the feedback has been very good. She stated that “from the JSE’s perspective this is a good way of attracting the younger generation to the market as there is a genuine need for them to become financially savvy”. Mrs. Street Forrest opined that youths grasp information quickly; therefore once they are attracted to the market their learning curve would be very short.

Mr. Owen James for his part called on the private sector to partner with the JSE and All Media Services Ltd. in an effort to increase the cash incentive prizes to the Young Investors programme. He was eager for the new season to start and for more young persons, especially those from the inner city, to get involved in the programme. He stated that All Media Services Ltd. was committed to Market education and will continue the partnership with the Exchange.
