Online Trading – the “Game Changer”: Another New and Exciting Product from the JSE!

In 2015 the Jamaica Stock Exchange will unveil its newest product offering: Online Trading, to the public.

What is Online Trading?

Online trading simply refers to buying and selling of securities via the Internet. The JSE Online Trading platform will give investors the opportunity to trade securities listed on the Board of the Exchange. It offers convenience, allows investors to avoid lengthy waiting periods to place an order and helps them manage their transactions with just the click of a mouse. This new product offering has the potential to allow millions of persons in Jamaica, the Diaspora and other countries to invest in securities listed on the Exchange.

How Does it Work?

Investors will be allowed to enter orders directly to the JSE trading system via the online platform. Orders are queued and will be executed based on priority. What are the benefits in having an online account? You don’t have to wait until business hours to place an order through your Broker. You can place orders 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. However, orders placed outside of market hours and trading days are sent to the market the next trading day. The market is opened Mondays to Fridays between the hours of 9:00am and 1:00pm

What activities can be performed on the Online Trading Platform?Investors can:

  • Buy and sell securities
  • Edit active buy or sell instructions
  • Cancel active orders
  • View market performance
  • Monitor account balances and view statements
  • View your current sales and purchases

 

Who can use the JSE Online Trading Platform to buy securities?

Anyone who eligible to open a Broker and JCSD Account and has an interest in buying and selling securities in the Jamaican Market

Is there a charge for using the Online Trading Platform?

Currently, the service is free of charge.  However, applicable trading fees, broker commission and taxes will be applied to each transaction.
