International finance is the branch of economics that studies the dynamics of exchange rates, foreign investment, and how these affect international trade. It also studies international projects, international investments and capital flows, and trade deficits. It includes the study of futures, options and currency swaps. International finance is a branch of international economics.
Important theories in international finance include the Mundell-Fleming model, the optimum currency area (OCA) theory, as well as the purchasing power parity (PPP) theory. Whereas international trade theory makes use of mostly microeconomic methods and theories, international finance theory makes use of predominantly macroeconomic methods and concepts.
In light of this information, the Jamaica Stock Exchange, presents its first International Finance seminar to enlighten Executives and Individuals on the procedures when making International Investment Decisions. This will allow for individuals and companies to do a cost benefit analysis when making International Business Decisions.
This seminar will be in the form of a formal lecture session combined with questions & answers to reinforce the concepts presented in each session.
This seminar will be conducted by Dr. Thomas Barkley, Assistant Professor of Finance Syracuse University Department of Finance.
Professor Barkley’s primary research interests are in market microstructure, asset pricing, derivatives, risk management, capital markets, and international finance. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and a Financial Risk Manager (FRM).
Dr. Barkley earn his Bachelor of .Science in Mathematics (with Honors), from the Associate of the Royal College of Science; Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine, University of London, England. His Post-Graduate Certificate in Education (Secondary School Mathematics) from the Center for Educational Studies, King’s College London, University of London, England, his Masters of Business Administration in International Management; Thunderbird School of Global Management, Glendale, AZ and his Ph.D. in Finance; Finance, Insurance and Real Estate Department, Warrington College of Business, University of Florida, Gainesville, FL Aug.
