Treasury Management Workshop
On Thursday, May 5, 2011, the Jamaica Stock Exchange hosted its Treasury Management Workshop at the Terra Nova Hotel.The presenter was Dr. Howard Haughton, renowned in the field of Financial Products and Risk Management.
Dr. Haughton looked at Treasury Management extending beyond the mere control of monetary flows and positions, exchange-rate and interest-rate volatility. He looked at the control of credit risk in an increasingly competitive market and the appearance of new financial instruments which have forced treasury management to become more forecast-based, with more emphasis on the management of investments, treasury deficits and different financial risks. He spoke to the basic responsibilities of treasury departments which will be those tasks that enable companies to use the techniques and information needed to minimize the financial costs and maximize returns on cash surpluses
