Jamaica Stock Exchange To Close at noon on May 25, 2005

The Jamaica Stock Exchange will close its offices at 12 noon on Wednesday, May 25, 2005 in support of the planned islandwide shut down of commercial activities being spearheaded by the Private Sector Organization Of Jamaica (PSOJ) to protest the recent upsurge in criminal activities. Trading activities will therefore be affected as the Stock Market opens at 9:30 a.m. and closes normally at 1 p.m. Last week the JSE and its eleven stockbroker members expressed their full support of the recent initiative of the PSOJ to bring forcefully to the attention of the Government, Opposition and the public, the significant toll that crime and violence are exacting on Jamaica. The PSOJ announced a three-day private sector show of protest to run from May 25 to May 27, 2005 and the JSE’s early closure will mark its support of the PSOJ’s stand.
