The Jamaica Stock Exchange (JSE) will be establishing its Junior Exchange. The objective of the Junior Exchange is to encourage domestic investment in Jamaica’s entrepreneurship, employment and economic development.

The JSE Junior Market Policy was approved by Cabinet on October 15, 2008. Consequently, the JSE is working assiduously to ensure that the Junior Market is implemented by the first quarter of 2009. Senator Donald Wehby, Minister without Portfolio in the Ministry of Finance and The Public Services, recognizes that this initiative is critical to stimulate growth in the Jamaican economy by developing the small and medium sized enterprises sector and has committed to work with the JSE to ensure success.

The Junior Market will also provide an avenue for small and medium sized companies to access equity capital of between $50-500 million from the market place. Likewise investors have an opportunity to invest in companies that are regulated by the JSE and other regulatory authorities.

Within this context the JSE will be hosting a one day seminar to discuss the issues surrounding the market. Additionally, participants will be given an insight of how to take advantage of this opportunity that will enhance their medium to long term growth and development.

A special highlight of this event will be a guest presentation by Senator the Hon. Donald Wehby, who will speak to the commitment of the government to this project and to address any queries participants might have.
