Jamaica Stock Exchange goes Global with Bloomberg

As of today, September 26 2005, the world now has access to information on activities on the Jamaican Stock market through Bloomberg, the leading global provider of data, news and analytics.

JSE’s quotes and trade data (trades, volume and prices) are now made available via the Bloomberg Professional service which is the most widely used financial information service accessed by more than 260,000 investors and market professionals worldwide. The Market Data Feed is used to disseminate market information from the JSE’s Horizon Automated trading system as it is published.

This chalks up another first for the organization as the Jamaica Stock Exchange is the first stock exchange in the region to provide this detailed market feed via Bloomberg. A client program connects to the JSE feed and converts the data into a format that can display time-delayed market data to Bloomberg users. Bloomberg will use the data feed to get JSE’s quotes and trades out to their mutual local and international customers in over 150 countries.

“This is a very exciting development for us at the Exchange as it places the Jamaican stock market squarely within the eyes of market participants worldwide,” says Marlene Street, JSE’s General Manager.

“Investors will be able to see latest trades with price and volume on the JSE market as it happens and this also means exposure to the Jamaican Stock Market thus encouraging international investors to invest in the local stock market” she said.
