Course Overview

The JSE e-Campus Post Graduate Certificate Course in Global Capital Markets & Financial Tools is designed to provide students with a comprehensive overview and understanding of the basic tools of Global Capital Markets and Financial Tools. Focus will be narrowed to the mechanics and methods of derivative markets. Moreover, the uses of derivative instruments, including speculation, hedging and exploiting arbitrage opportunities using these financial tools will be explored. In particular, attention will be focused on exchange-traded derivatives – futures and options – Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs), warrants, etc; as well as debt securities (i.e., bonds), and Over the Counter (OTC) derivatives, such as Repos, CDS and Synthetics. Emphasis will be given to why financial markets exist with applications of how the instruments which exist in derivative markets are used to generate, manage and protect value.
