“Investing in Jamaica Virtual Forum” held on March 23rd and 24th, 2022.

The Consulate General of Jamaica, New York (CGNY), in keeping with its Economic Diplomacy Programme and Diaspora Engagement Strategy, partnered with the Jamaica Stock Exchange (JSE), to host a second “Investing in Jamaica Virtual Forum”. The Forum was held on March 23rd and 24th, 2022.

Background:

The Forum was conceptualized on the basis of the identification of an interest for increased dialogue on investment opportunities in Jamaica and the United States of America (USA). This interest came as a result of the successful Investment Townhall Meeting that was convened by CGNY and the JSE, in New York, in November 2019.

Following the assessment of that meeting and engagement with key stakeholders in the Jamaican Diaspora, both CGNY and the JSE determined that the core objectives of this Investment Forum would be as follows:

 Objectives:

  • Sensitizing investors from within the Diaspora and other persons living in the USA of the investment climate in Jamaica and the
  • Exploring and promoting opportunities on the equity and bond market for potential investors from within the Diaspora and other persons living in the
  • Laying the foundation for increased flow of investments in Jamaica, with an emphasis on growing the number of Diaspora investors in Jamaica.

In order to achieve the aforementioned objectives, Consul General Alsion Wilson, OD, and the Managing Director of the JSE, Dr. Marlene Street Forrest CD, JP, assembled a list of presenters from top financial institutions in Jamaica and the USA, along with relevant line Ministries, Departments and Agencies. Reports on their presentations have been captured to provide information on their services and the financial opportunities associated with their companies.

Outcome and Future Investment Fora:

The main outcome of the Forum was a recognition of genuine interest from Jamaicans at home and abroad for investment opportunities in Jamaica. This was demonstrated through the keen of persons who attended virtually.
