Sandra Osborne is a Queen’s Counsel of Barbados and a Chartered Secretary. She has 30 years’ experience in the legal and corporate secretarial field, having previously practised as a Crown Counsel in the Attorney General’s Chambers and at the private Bar in Barbados, prior to joining the Sagicor Group in 1989. Ms Osborne holds a BcS (Hons) Government and an LLB (Hons) from the Mona and Cave Hill campuses of The University of the West Indies and is a graduate of the Hugh Wooding Law School, Trinidad. She is also a Fellow of the Institute of Corporate Secretaries and Administrators in Canada.

 

For the last 20 years Ms Osborne has been involved in the financial services industry. She currently holds the position of Executive Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary of Sagicor Financial Corporation, one of the Caribbean’s leading financial services Groups, and has played an integral role in effecting fundamental corporate change, including demutualization, corporate mergers, acquisitions, take-overs and public offerings. Her areas of focus are securities and corporate law, regulatory compliance and corporate governance.

 

Over the last 10 years, she has contributed to regulatory reform of the Barbados capital markets in the areas of securities, mutual funds and take-over bid legislation and rules of the Barbados Stock Exchange and Barbados Central Securities Depositary.

 

Ms Osborne was awarded a Silver Crown of Merit (SCM) as part of the 2006 Barbados Independence Day Honours in recognition of her contribution to the development of electronic trading and settlement for the Barbados capital market, particularly as it relates to demutualization and dematerialization of the market.
