JSE Stock Market Game for High Schools

Portfolio values in Jamaican Dollars (JMD) as at February 11, 2010.

Bellefield High School remains in first place of the competition and has secured a sizeable lead over the respective second and third place competitors St. Jago High School and Campion College respectively. Calabar High School has fallen from second place to fourth place with a portfolio value of $229,827.06. Last year’s champion Hillel Academy currently ranks 6th place with a portfolio value of $209,125.90.
 
Bellefield High School’s portfolio stands at $280,783.32 with an unrealized gain of $80,783.32, which represents a 20.39%, lead over second place rival St. Jago High School and is 21.81% ahead of third place competitor Campion College. Calabar High School and Hampton High School now stand in 4th and 5th place respectively in the competition.
 
The astounding Bellefield High School’s pair now occupy 1st place and 3rd place in the competition. Shawn Parker, who is in 1st place, has recorded gains of $49,658.11 and in 3rd place is teammate Shaneil Smalling whose portfolio value grew by $31,125.21 since the start of the competition last year.
Shawn Parker benefited from making some profitable investments during the last month. His portfolio’s sizeable return was attributable to gains in the prices of Pan Jamaica Investments Ltd. (PJAM) shares, Scotia DBG Investments Ltd. (SDBG) shares and NCB Jamaica Ltd. (NCBJ) shares. Total gains from the increases in these share prices amounted to $3,962.50.
Shaniel Smalling’s portfolio gain stands at $3,393.75 during the last month. Her portfolio return reflected gains in PJAM, SDBG and NCBJ, as did her teammates. The Bellefield High team has definitely employed a winning investment strategy.
 
Dexter Smith from Calabar High School ranks third with a portfolio value of J$133,887.26 representing an unrealized gain of $33,887.26. The fourth place individual position is still held by Matthew Williams of Campion College (portfolio value $130,568.00) with Jovi McCalla from St. Jago High School in 5th place with a portfolio value of $119,130.00.
