JSE Regulatory and Market Oversight Division Seminar

The Regulatory & Market Oversight Division of the Jamaica Stock Exchange (JSE) recently concluded its workshop on “Timely Disclosure and Communicating in a Crisis” on Tuesday, November 18, 2008 at the Terra Nova All- Suites Hotel.

The workshop was a timely intervention as the Division felt that in the wake of the Global Financial Crisis and its uncertainty as well as the possible reverberations in the Jamaican marketplace, it was necessary to sensitize market practioners with the rules of the Exchange as well as to equip them to with the fundamentals of crisis communication.

Attorney-at-Law Lance Hylton took the participants through the Legal Requirements on Disclosure, Regulatory Requirements, and Dealing with Rumours whilst Communication Consultant Yvonne Grinam-Nicholson shared the tools that they can use to communicate accurate information to stake-holders in a manner that addresses their concerns and inspires confidence in a time of crisis.

This workshop, which emphasized varying requirements of the Exchange’s Rules, is one in a series of activities geared at sensitizing the market on the regulations of the Exchange.
