JSE and Ernst & Young Service Ltd. Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA) Workshop

Background

In 2010, President Obama signed the Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA) into law. This legislation was enacted to prevent offshore tax abuses by U.S. organizations and persons. The entities impacted will be required to adhere to complex customer identification and due diligence requirements and report      information regarding account holders that are   specified U.S. persons or U.S. owned entities.

The objective of the Workshop is to clarify the legal,   economic and other implications and impact of the legislation on the industry and clients. Financial      institutions and individuals will have to make          significant changes to comply with Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA). It is important to note that most FATCA provisions does not take effect until the middle of 2013. However, financial institutions and individuals have to begin to prepare from now to meet the 2013 implementation date. The JSE in association with Ernst & Young Services Ltd. will assist in guiding you through the preparation process.

 WHO SHOULD ATTEND

Mr. Jun Li Professional background and experience:
         Jun is a Partner with more than 12 years of experience serving the financial services industry including hedge funds, private equity funds and international banks.
         He has experience providing a wide variety of tax consulting and compliance services to several multinational hedge funds, private equity funds, offshore funds and investment advisors through his deep knowledge of partnership, corporation and financial product taxation.
         Jun serves as the Ernst & Young US Asset Management Leader for Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA). He is also the engagement partner on several FATCA current assessment projects for global asset managers.
Prior to joining Ernst & Young, Jun worked in the tax department at a global fund administrator and was a manager at another big four public accounting firm responsible for the development of the tax practice in the Cayman Islands. Jun started his career at Arthur Andersen.
