Jamaica Public Service (JPS) – Board Movement

Mirant announced that Mr. Damian Obiglio has been appointed president and chief executive officer (CEO) of Jamaica Public Service Company. The appointment is effective July 3, 2006.

Mr. Obiglio assumes the position from Mr. Charles Matthews, current president and CEO, who will be leaving the company as his five-year contract draws to a close on June 30, 2006.

Most recently, Mr. Obiglio served as president and CEO of 4 Oeste Empreendimentose  Participacoes S. A., a diversified private equity investment fund. Prior to that, he served The AES Corporation, providing executive leadership for various generation and distribution assets throughout Latin America including serving as president and CEO of AES Sol Distribuidora Gaucha de Energia S. A, Brazil, and president and CEO, Empresa Distribuidera de Energia Norte S. A., Argentina.

“Damian’s proven leadership in the utility industry in Latin America will further advance the good work at Jamaica Public Service Company that begun by Charles” said Edward R. Muller, president and chief executive officer, Mirant.

During his tenure, Mr. Matthews delivered significant value to Mirant. He led the financial turnaround of the previously government-owed integrated utility from a loss to profit position and positioned the company to improved customer service. In addition, he directed the implementation of JPS’$200 million generation expansion and hurricane restoration efforts. Mr. Matthews credited the hardworking and dedicated JPS workforce for the success realized during his tenure.

“Under Charles’ direction, the business has produced steady earnings and consistently advanced its further development. His contributions to Mirant have been significant, we wish him all the best in the future,” Muller stated.
