National Investor Education Week 2014
“Financial Literacy the Key to Financial Prosperity”
Rationale
The Jamaica Stock Exchange will be hosting its 7th National Investor Education Week from October 5 – 10, 2014. We continue to push this agenda, as we are aware that it is through a)      Provide information on the financial markets
b)     Highlight the products available in the financial industry and to bring into focus the importance of the Equities Market
c)      Educate the investing public about the benefits of listing on the market, investing in equities and the regulatory framework that are in place to protect their investments
d)     Increase the number of equity investors in the market
e)      Reconnect with existing investors and business associates
 
The Week’s Activities
The week of activities will be under the theme “Invest in Financial Knowledge: Make Informed Investment Decisions”. The week willkick-off” on Sunday October 5, 2014, which will be followed by:
1.      Outside Broadcast at the JSE Office – Monday, 6th October
  
2.      Workshop, “Bridging the Gap Between Ideas & Capital” – Tuesday, 7th October at the Terra Nova Hotel
3.      JIS Think Tank at JIS to discuss the relevance of the Stock Market to Jamaicans at Home and Abroad – Wednesday, 8th  October
4.      Investor Forum  Winner of the JSE Public Stock Market Game Thursday, 9th October
This year new features include a JIS Think Tank session to look at one of the important institution in Jamaica, the Jamaica Stock Exchange. The Stock Exchange is celebrating its 45th anniversary and it is important to look at its:
  1. History
  2. Achievements over the years
  3. Relevance now and in the future
  4. The Junior Market

One of its greatest achievements in recent time is the Junior Market which came through the collaboration with the government and is a true testimony of how private/public partnership activities can benefit the country. Therefore at the JIS Think Tank Session, there will also be an in-depth look at:

  1. How the Junior Market was formed
  2. Its Mission and Objectives
  3. Achievements and Benefits to the Country
  4. Benefits to the Small & Medium Size Companies
  5. How Companies Can Access the Benefits
  6. Ways to improve on this success
The JIS Think Tank will be held at the JIS Office 40 Half-Way-Tree Road; Kingston 10 on Wednesday, October 2, 2014.
