Jamaica Stock Exchange Best Practices Awards Committee Named

Executive Director of the Mona School of Business, Professor Neville Ying was today (September 28, 2005) selected as the Chairman of the Jamaica Stock Exchange’s Best Practices Awards Committee.

 

Speaking at the first meeting of the Awards Committee which was held in the JSE’s Board Room, JSE’s General Manager Mrs. Marlene Street pointed out that the Awards are to “provide an avenue to recognize our stakeholders, that is, stockbrokers and listed companies, in the securities industry who uphold best practices standards.”

 

“We want to create an awareness of the standards for best practices in the areas to be adjudged and to stimulate stakeholders to aspire to incorporate Best Practices within their organizations. The JSE also wishes to improve the overall conduct of market players leading to increased efficiencies in the industry.”

 

She said that the Awards will also go a far way in enhancing the relationship between the JSE, brokerages and listed companies.

The Terms of Reference of the Awards Committee include developing criteria for awards in the following categories:

JSE Best Practice Annual Report Award; JSE Best Practice Corporate Disclosure And Investor Relations; JSE Best Practice Website (To include Stockbrokerages);

                                                           

JSE Best Practice Investor Relations (Stockbrokerages);
A Performance-based assessment of companies listed on the JSE and A Golden Award Winner for All Round Excellence in the Market.

 

A gala Awards Banquet will be held on December 9, 2005 at the Hilton Kingston Hotel to recognize the outstanding companies.
