The profit attributable to the Group of $87.8 million for the period ending June, 1997, is well below the 1996 performance of $196.2 million for the same period.
However, this represents a significant turn around from the fourth quarter last year and the first quarter of this year where profits/losses in those quarters were a loss of $117.8 million and a profit of $27.5 million respectively.
The Group has a net asset value in excess of two and a half times the current capitalised market value on the JSE.
