Goodyear Jamaica Ltd. announced on March 21, that it is closing its Morant Bay tyre manufacturing facility, but will continue to maintain a strong sales presence in the country with offices in Kingston and Olivier Road. The plant closure will take effect immediately and all employees have been advised.
“Intense pressure” from lower-cost producers, the plant’s small size and Goodyear’s ability to service this market with products from more efficient and competitive production sources was said to have dictated the decision.
