Conference 2007 Plans in High Gear

            PLANS FOR JSE 2007 REGIONAL CONFERENCE IN HIGH GEAR

 (KINGSTON, NOVEMBER 21, 2006) Plans for the Jamaica Stock Exchange’s Second Regional Conference on Investments and the Capital Markets are in high gear following on the heels of the successful inaugural conference.

 The  2007 conference which will be held at the Ritz Carlton Hotel, Montego Bay from January 10-12, has a stellar line-up of local and overseas speakers and is set to provide participants with a wide range of industry topics on issues and trends.

 Lead sponsors are: Oppenheimer & Co. Ltd., a US-based investment company; TV Jamaica and the Jamaica Observer.  Other sponsors are: Capital Options; COK Ltd.; Stewarts Motors; First Caribbean International Bank; Financial Services Commission; First Global Financial Services Ltd.;  PricewaterHouse; NCB Insurance Co.; OMX, a US-based trading platform company; Capital & Credit Financial services; Bloomberg and Cable and Wireless Ltd.

 The conference opens with a gala banquet on January 10, 2007. Sanjaya Panth, IMF Mission Chief for the Caribbean Region will be a keynote speaker and he will focus on Financial Integration.

 During the conference topics to be discussed will include: “Vision Pursued – Promises Realised” and will look at the developments that have happened since the January 2006 conference. Participants include: Marlon Yarde, General Manager, Barbados Stock Exchange Inc.; Hugh Edwards, General Manager, Trinidad and Tobago Stock Exchange; Greg Wojciechowski, President and CEO of the Bermuda Stock Exchange (who will look at the developments of his stock exchange) and Marlene Street Forrest, General Manager of the Jamaica Stock Exchange.

 The Governor of the Bank of Jamaica, Mr. Derick Lattibeaudiere will speak on “Monetary Policy and Its Impact on the Capital Market Development in Jamaica” on Thursday. The workshop session on regulation will examine “Moving Regional regulation to enhance Caribbean integration: Where are we now?” Guest speaker is Michael Moore, Snr. Counsel, US Securities Exchange Commission and participants will include representatives of all regional securities commission. Jamaica will be represented by Mr. Brian Wynter, Executive Director of the Financial Services Commission.

 There will be a session on Securitisation and another on “Alternative Investments”. Speakers for the latter session will include: Acting President of JAMPRO, Sancia Bennett-Sempler; Mrs. Audrey Richards, Financial Consultant and Daniel Lambert, Chief Executive Officer; FNCU a Trinidad and Tobago based venture capital company.

 “Building Financial Infrastructures: Corporate Services” will be discussed on Friday. Guest speaker will be Mr. Bruce Butterill, Director, Capital Markets Rating & Advisory Services (Americas). CEO of Regional Credit rating services agency, CARICRIS, Mr. Venkat Raman, will present on Regional credit rating. 

 Mrs. Judith Dolle, Regional Vice President, The Householder Group, a US-based company will speak on Estate Planning.

Health Tourism will also come into focus at the conference. Presenters are: Dr. Winston Davidson who will speak on, Strides in  Telemedicine” while Hon. Danny Williams, Chairman of the Retirement and Health Tourism project and Earl Samuels, Managing Director of National Housing Trust will speak on that topic.

 As with the inaugural conference, this summit will feature a net-working session and an internet cafe where participants will have free internet access, sponsored by Cable and Wireless.  There will be a Booth Exhibition featuring companies with 2007 financial products on show.

 Last year’s conference continues to pay dividends to sponsors and participants who attended.
